Some players do feel that 3D poker is simply a cheap gimmick and the more serious players are not really interested in playing 3D poker. Advantages of 3D Poker

The added benefits of playing poker in 3D are mainly the advanced graphics that players can experience. In addition, the games are generally much software when compared to the other normal poker sites. 3D Poker sites also offer some excellent player community tools such as personal avatars that allow users to customise them similar to how some facebook applications work. Users can customise the look, feel, clothing, colour, style and many other features of their 3D Poker avatar. In addition, 3D poker sites also offer personal poker pages, advanced chat features and overall a much more technically advanced product offering in general.

In terms of the type of games, a lot of players prefer playing ont he 3D poker sites because the level of play is considered more novice and they are not afraid that they will be playing against a couple of sharks that will simply land up taking their entire bank roll at the end of each playing session.

Disadvantages of 3D Poker

The biggest disadvantage of 3D poker rooms is that their software is usually massive and can take a significant amount of time to download and get started. In addition, from our experience the 3D poker product offering does not work on all computer platforms. There are 3D poker sites that offer both windows and MAC compatible software. We did however decide to test their software on both platforms and unfortunately the download process was not successful on all of them. We would say that the success rate was around 50%. Another disadvantage to 3D poker is that the software and all the gimmicks, avatars and graphics can be rather distracting. Some players do get caught up the "wow" effect of the platform as opposed to actually playing poker. Finally, another disadvantage of 3D poker software is that its more geared to the technically astute user who knows their way around a computer pretty well. In a nut shell, 3D poker can be considered a more geek type poker experience.
