World Series of Poker
The World series of poker, commonly referred to the WSOP is the richest and most prestigeous prize in tournament poker. Owned and managed by Caesars Interactive Entertainment Inc, the world series is known around the world as the biggest poker event on the calender. Traditionally, the WSOP takes place at Harrahs Casino resort in Atlantic City, the format of the tournament has changed dramatically over the years due to the increase in its popularity and the increase in the number of players.
The World series of poker is now considered one of the richest prizes in sport (for those that consider poker to be a sport). In recent years, the WSOP has been won by a number of online players, players that qualified via various online satelites from sites such as Pokerstars or Bodog. A number of these players were considered amateur players and once they one the WSOP immediately turned pro and started playing poker for a living.
The most notable WSOP champion has to be Chris Moneymaker who took the World Series of Poker crown back in 2003. The reason this was such a significant event is because Moneymaker qualified for the WSOP via $39 satellite event that took place on Pokerstars. This win then gave him entry into another event with the main prize being a seat at the WSOP. The day Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker was the day that online poker literally exploded.
World Series of Poker Online Poker Site
In late 2010, the World Series of Poker launched their official online poker site where players can play poker online for real money. The site has restricted access to certain countries only, for example, US players cannot play for real money on the WSOP poker site. For the time being, the site is focused on the European market, in particular the UK market. WSOP online poker site is a partnership with 888 Holdings Dragonfish division. Dragonfish provides WSOP with a full turn key solution for their online poker room.
Furthermore, the WSOP brand also launched an online casino website using the same Gragonfish technology that powers 888casino website. Again, this casino site is restricted to certain countries and regions only.
World Series of Poker Academy
The World Series of Poker training academy is the official training academy of the WSOP brand. The academy offers 24/7 access to interactive poker training tutorials brought to you by some of the worlds most successful players which include Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Greg Raymer, Mark Seif and many others. The World Series of Poker academy actually offers an official certified traning course. In order to complete certification, students are put through a tough and extensive online poker tutorial course which contains video tutorials, web tutorials and a number of other handy teaching methods.
World Series of Poker Facebook Application
A recent addition to the World Series of Poker stable of products. Players can now play online via their facebook application and earn points while competing against fellow friends and foes. Other new features include tournaments, sweepstakes to win trips to Las Vegas, and chances at winning seats to WSOP events.
